High Tech Heaven Management and Staff
David W. Weisgerber, GISP
Owner, Trainer, GIS/GPS Professional and Repair Technician
First experienced computers in... the early 1980's when computers filled a room and were given instructions by paper cards punched with holes. It didn't take.
Then, he learned some very simple BASIC programming... mildly intriqued, but still no.
Finally, in 1989, he was allowed to see MILNET in action. He was impressed! He took an IBM computing class in 1988 and soon thereafter began learning DOS in a classified security environment. In 1995, he bought his first home computer. The proud owner of a new Compaq with the latest Windows 95! It was this computer that quickly taught him the need for learning how to repair computers (he also soon learned to never buy another Compaq and also to NEVER charge it to a Sears card!).
By 1999, he was already the IT guy for the NC Forest Service at Bladen Lakes State Forest, Turnbull Creek Educational State Forest and also at the County Rangers Office. He was networking and repairing everything he could get his hands on. Novell to Windows, dial-up to high speed 10mb LAN's! Y2K was his nightmare there... but it passed by without a hitch.
Soon afterwards, his interests expanding to GIS with a software package called Atlas GIS. Back then, it was impressive! This grew to encompass GPS technology as well.
In 2002, he graduated with dual AAS degrees in Computer Programming and Information Systems Technology.
He was soon noticed by NC State University and was called on to assist in GIS conversion, planning and other technology related Forestry issues.
He was certified as a GIS mapper for the NC state fire crews just prior to his moving to Polk County, NC in 2003 where he was quickly scooped up by Polk County Government to work in the IT department while formulating the foundation for what would become the one-man GIS department/division.
He became certified as a GIS Professional in 2005 (one of the first thousand in the world!) and in 2007, Polk County launched their first ever GIS internet mapping application with its first ever digital cadastral layer.
Today, he still acts as the single GIS Administrator/Tax Mapper/DBA/Web site administrator/ etc.
It is his vision to bring the best in technology to Polk County and the surrounding areas. High Tech Heaven will someday teach technology to people of all ages, bring planners together in state of the art meeting centers, offer children a safe and clean place to have fun, assist others with online education and help others enjoy technology in their homes by providing affordable repair/networking solutions to those in need.
